What triggers the alarm of a library?
I was just curious at what part of the book actually causes the exit of the library to go off, people tell me its the barcode, but I think that if someone were to steal a book then all they have to do is rip the barcode right? I know its not that easy, but does anyone know exactly what causes the alarms to go off?
Best answer:
A device called a ‘tattle tape’ which is a sticky strip with a magnetic socket in it, (its basically a thin flat wire), is put down the book spine or inside one of the pages. When trying to get through the gate way at the library door the alarm will set off if the magnetic strip has not been ‘desensitised’ (Checked out).
Sometimes you can spot them, other times you can’t. Green tattle tapes are used in paperback books whilst white are used in hardback books.

how do you calculate the narrow and wide bar widths for a barcode using LPI?
Best answer:
LPI is “lines per inch” so if you have 8 LPI then you have 8 lines per inch so one line is (1 inch)/(8 lines) = 1/8 inch.
If your wide bars are 5 lines and your narrow are 2 lines then wide bars are 5/8 inch wide and narrow are 1/4 inch (or 2/8 inch).
Many fonts are done in points. There are 72 points per inch. So if you have 8 LPI (lines per inch) then you have 72/8 points per line. Multiply the number of lines by 9 to get the number of points.

How can I tell what model Palm Vx I have?
I bought a Palm Vx PDA at a Goodwill store. It is just the handheld part. No charger/manual accessories etc. I tried to find out some info about it on line; but I can’t even tell what specific model it is. There is a barcode and what appears to be a s/n below it, but I can’t tell for sure. Unable to find any obvious links for help on the Palm websites.
Best answer:
You will need a charger / sync stand. It’s the only way to charge that thing. It’s ANCIENT by modern standards. You can probably find one off Craigslist or something, who knows.

Question about passports for travelling to US?
I have an older style British passport without the memory chip, mine has the barcode as it was issued in 2002. Is this type of passport still ok for using to travel to the US, or do I need to get the memory chip passport?
Best answer:
Your passport is fine. The barcode makes it machine readable, which is the requirement to enter the U.S. under the visa waiver program. Have a great trip.

How can I frame tickets to past events?
I have a bunch of tickets (not just the stubs but the entire ticket thanks to the barcode technology) and I would like to frame them all into one frame. Kind of like a collection.
is there a frame I can buy someone where?
Best answer:
I don’t know if there is a specific frame, but my friend bought a cute piece of scrapbooking paper that matched her room and then laid out the tickets kind of like a collage. She added cute little decorations (ribbons, buttons, pictures even) and then framed in a 12×12 frame. It looks super cool!
hollywoodmegastore.com/frame-set3.htm?hollywoodmegastore.com/cgi-bin/VirtualCatalog3/CatalogMgr.pl?cartID=b-4435&SearchFor=frami+5425+5455&template=Htx/party.htx&hdr=Hollywood+Mega+Store+:+Picture+Frames& has some cute frames you could work with as well.
Hope that helps:]
Happy crafting!

Sims 2 Barcode question?
I’m buying a used Sims 2 Seasons and a used Sims 2 Pets from ebay. I was wondering if I buy both of them am I going to need to spend 20 more dollars for a new barcode for both of them or I just use the original barcode (both of the games have the original disc, manual, and box)
Best answer:
if they have registered the games you will have to purchase a bar code.
