1999 Hyndai Sonata Dashboard trouble light question?
Last week, the parking brake light and the “Battery” symbol light started coming on on the dash (instrument cluster) on my 1999 Sonata, …my wife said. It would never do it while i was driving – but i see it today and now either light will not go off while the car is running. What does this mean? I DO know that the parking brake light came on before, meaning i was low in brake fluid, and i corrected that by adding fluid. The fluid is not low this time. Why are BOTH lights on now at the same time. I also notice my rear window defroster indicator light does not come on, and THAT started today also. I checked all the appropriate fuses , and all checks ok. Anybody know what this is? Will one of those code scanners tell me anything? By the way- The car seems to be running normally , ..other than i suppose my rear defrost isn’t working..
Best answer:
This is your alternator acting up. You will end-up replacing it. This is a typical symptom indicating alternator failure. It starts by turning the lights on while running at idle. While driving, the lights on the dash might be turning off if the brushes are still having a bit left.
