2 prevent melamine poisoning, what tools does the consumer have in Egypt?
Is there an official ministry of health site with info. on businesses and or products containing the dangerous melamine? I was surprised to find Nestle, Pizza Hut, Coffee Mate and others on the list.
http://www.rense.com/general84/mel.htm I particularly liked this one. It’s simple, informative and has bar code information to help differentiate where products come from. Is the barcode structure the same in egypt? I wonder if this will post finally, this is the 3rd time I’ve tried. received violation deletion notice the 1st time, the 2nd time it never posted to the section…pass the info along on melamine to those you care about, and if you can, pls. let me know what resources are avail. in egypt to protect ourselves from it. thanks in advance!

Yes , the bar code structure is the same in Egypt, Each company puts different bar codes according to the region in where they distribute their product, this bar code is there mainly to protect the agents in different countries and to track the products,Meanly to limit the Parallel trade,, As you know there is a price fluctuation from a region to a region, Lets imagine they find Nestle product in Germany which carry a bar code, patch number of the products distributed in the Emirates , they can track this product to the Emirates’ agent and may cancel his agency to sell out of his region…
As for the Melamine, Officially no (food, medicine…etc) is cleared in Egypt without a certificate of Origin and further analysis either in the labs of ministry of health, or ministry of agriculture or BOTH,,That does not mean no (exceptions ) are done,, even in the EC or USA there are a percentage of fake /smuggled products to be cleared,, Life scan is suing a guy in Belgium as he was selling a mix of genuine products alone with repacked ones in Asia ,, this Guy is even an official life scan agent (in Africa),,,Happened before with Behringer Mannheim,,in other products..If the regulations are respected , there is no danger at all,,, (pay attention to “”If”")

Now: there is a difference between melamine , and Melanmine resin,, Melamine may have been added to fool government protein content tests after water was added to fraudulently dilute the milk. Because of melamine’s high nitrogen content (66% by mass versus approx. 10-12% for typical protein), it can cause the protein content of food to appear higher than the true value. Officials estimate that about 20 percent of the dairy companies tested in China sell products tainted with melamine.
The Melamine resin is used to make bottles, kitchen ware, dishes…..etc ,, and that is safe as it is not soluble,, and does not contaminate the food generally..

I don’t know about websites, but generally speaking, if you can buy liquids in glass containers, you are more likely to avoid melamine than if you get them in plastic, evidently. That goes for almost anywhere, for some reason, I’m not sure why. If you are getting water in bottles and can afford to get one of those filtration systems that boils the water, passes it through a filter as it evaporates, and then collects it again as it liquifies once more, that’s probably a good idea for getting all sorts of contaminants out, whether organic or chemical. We don’t always know what all has been put into things during the process of manufacture and bottling (or packaging), but the closer to the farmer you can buy things, the better; the cleaner you can get something, the better; and if you can cook it for 20 minutes before consuming it, do it! That goes for water, milk, meat, vegetables, fruits, grains, and just about everything else anybody can eat or drink, in any country.
