  umm dude, cue cat is extinct. They signed an agreement with radioshack. they were found to be a fraud company, fcc closed them down, end of story, i dunno where you got the scanner, but its no good unless you know something about electronics, and your interested in de-engineering it and making a plain barcode scanner.
  READ ON FOR THE STORY ON CUE CAT. AND IF YOU DONT HAVE A CLUE WHAT A CUE CAT IS, READ ON.

  This company started out claiming they had a unique idea for everybody, claiming they had invented a scanner that you pass over a barcode and it would take you to the internet page of that product, i.e. scan a dr. pepper bottle code, and your computer (if connected to internet) would go to dr. pepper website. cool huh? read on. this device was a cat shabe barcode reader(mice, and mouse was taken obviously) that connected in your keyboard ps2 port and keyboard connected to it, or it was avalible in usb.
  Radioshack signed on and aggreed to distribute these CUE CATS- they had developed a “CAT-a-loug for radioshack complete with barcodes next to many different products, you scan the barcode, the internet takes you to that products details page on radioshack. futhermore, you had to install this “software” that could read the barcode and decode it, obviously you have to be able to tell what your scanning. however, it was later found out that the cuecats programming actually contained some serious tracking cookies. when you registered(couldnt use it without regisetering an d entering a code) you entered your name address phone, ect. well they would “verify” this. well after you started using it, the program would transmit keystroke information, websites visited, and more personal confidential data to the “cuecat server” hence they were prying into your computer. this was discovered and immediately, (within 2 days) radioshack issued a recall and destroy notice for all stores. however some still leaked out and several tech, like myself obtained these rejects and de-engineered them. the scanner would automatically encrypt the barcode as it scanned it, then send a serial number from the scanner wand itself(thats how they knew who you were) along with the encypted barcode, and the occasional extra info from your histories and key strokes. there is a lot more about this conspiracy that has been covered up. here is a link to a guys webpage who helped uncover this issue.
