Anyone familiar with DIGITAL police scanners?
I’m trying to make a decision on a handheld scanner. I want to make sure it has the capabilities to pick up the transmissions that are digital, which is what a lot of the towns are using now. Can anyone make a suggestion as to what I should get? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best answer:

Radio Shack and Uniden are the only digital scanners that I know of. I personally would go with the Radio Shack because you can get local support from them and they can help with programming and frequencies.

It is a myth that all police departments are going digital anytime soon. Many police/fire/EMS departments will stay analog for a long time because it costs a lot of money to change over the radio systems.

If you want to listen to digital police frequencies, you can’t, they are encrypted channels and no manufacturer as yet, makes one that will enable you to listen to them.
