Auto Insurance ID FS-20…?

Auto Insurance ID FS-20…?

Hi,

My auto insurance doesnt want to give me a copy of the ID which has my brothers name on it.
I am the policy holder, and I include my brother to my insurance as driver, because he will also be driving the car.

I requested an ID that have my name and my brothers name on it, but the auto insurance wont give me because they said my name should be the only one listed on the ID, and my brother’s name appear on the policy not on the ID which has the barcode, and which the police checks when you have accidents.

My brother’s concern is that, what if he got pulled by police for random inspection then he showed the insurance ID which only have my name on it, and his name is not there, ho dont want to be bothered by police, like anybody else.

My question is, is it ok if the insurance ID(FS-20) has only my name on it, even my brother will drive the car too? What if he got pulled out for random check? What will happen?
We drive in NYC.

I asked this, because some of my friends told me that, the insurance ID should have my name, and my brothers name, so that my brother wont be bothered or hold by police for verification or something.

Let me know..Thanks!

Your brother is a listed driver. YOU are the insured.

As the insured, you have privileges that listed drivers don’t have.

His name CANNOT be listed as the policyholder – but it doesn’t need to be, either.

As long as the car is registered to you, the insurance card should list your name on it, too, and the police won’t bother him. “Friends” are wrong. The name on the tags, title, and insurance card all have to MATCH.

Maybe you could get a quote from insurers you get from yellow pages,. the internet, the TV, the radio.
