bar code reader ???? you have any idea how this works?

i bought a mobile phone nokia e71 it has a bar code reader i have absolutely no idea how it works or what the hell can i use it for ? any idea?
hey i i tried to set the bar code between the lines but no information appeared, what should i expect to see?
