barcode problem! help..?
im trying to use the barcode reader in visual basic. i just have a form, a textbox (with the focus on it) and no codes. i tried the barcode reader and it only sounded “toot…….. toot-toot-toot-toot.. ” and the value of the barcode reader didnt register in the textbox. ive already tried different kinds of barcode (the ones in the boxes of cereals, milk..) i just want to know what the problem is. im using Symbol LS-3683-1206A model.

No way to tell without more info.
Try the barcode scanner in Notepad or something similar. Scan a code, it should enter directly through keyboard buffer
If it didn’t, you need to learn how to config the reader, as it’s not a VB problem. You’re just not troubleshooting the right part.
Find the manual at Symbol’s website, and find the config barcodes as well. You’ll need them.

Concur with Kasey. Also, when you download the manual for the barcode scanner, it should have a troubleshooting section. Hoepfully that’ll tell what the meaning of the beeps is, and give you some insight into getting it working.
My quick read is that it does sound like the scanner needs to be configured, but trying it in Notepad would tell you for sure whether the problem is with the scanner or it’s a VB issue. Good luck!
