Barcode Scanners?
Barcode Scanners?
Does anyone know anything about barcode scanners? The business I work for is interested in investing in a barcode scanner to help track inventory. Currently, we have asset tags (that contain barcodes as well as an id #) on every piece of a/v and computer-related equipment. My question is this: will any barcode scanner read any type of barcode or do you have to purchase a specific program with a barcode scanner? Meaning, will I be able to keep my existing asset tags in place or will I need to purchase and implement all new asset tags with the purchase of a barcode scanner? Thanks!
Best answer:
These days, any barcode scanner will read your existing barcodes. What happens is, there are a few companies that make scan devices, and other companies use these scanners in their product solution. There are litterally thousands of programs and printers that make barcodes, so the scanner companies make their scanners to read pretty much anything. As long as the print quality of the codes is good (they are big enough, there is enough “white space” past the ends of the codes, etc.), then you should not need to print them again.
