Barcode system vs. manual system?
Barcode system vs. manual system?
How can implementing a electronic barcode system to replace a manual system decrease a companys expenses? How will it be easier?
Best answer:
Implementing a bar code system will be more efficient because employees will not have to waste time manually entering codes into a computer system and will reduce the likelihood of an error. However, there is the capital expense of getting the system up and running.

Instead of the cashier keying in the price and the situation of human error, the company should be having a less expense. However the initial cost of the system would need to be taken in consideration and probably the lost of jobs, probably don’t need that many cashiers now, and the break even point to consider if it was worth it.

For one UPC codes make it much easier to change prices on goods. With manual, all cans have to have prices stamped on them. The prices now are put in front of each item and the price per unit is displayed.
The cashiers also have to put the prices in by hand, which is slower and painful to do for six hours or more. Because it’s faster, the lines take less time to go through check outs.

The bar code system does much more than just price products. It also tracks inventory, sales habits and a host of other information. Prior to the POS/ Bar code era the overhead was many times what it is now.
