Best phone to run Semacode/ Kaywa Reader/ Shotcode/ Connexto on?

I bought a Motorola V3x to run these barcode-reader applications on, but I’m not impressed. The interfaces don’t look the same as they do in demo videos. Also, the application doesn’t read nearly as well as is claimed.
On my V3x, the application is much more static. For example, you have to get the barcode clearly in focus, and then click to read it. On the demo videos, hovering the phone over the code gets a reading.
I believe that these problems are because my phone is underpowered. I’m not sure about this, though. Can anyone tell me what is the best phone for me to get to run these applications with?
By the way, I am based in the USA, but would like to get a quad-band phone so I can use it in the UK.
Here are links to the websites for each application:

Hi. I’m Wil from Canada. I will be interested to know too what mobile phones are QR code ready, specially if those phones have video out feature. I have a video eyewear from Icuiti (that can be connected to the mobilephone w/ video-out), and this should be great to view the video ( downloaded thru a QR Code). I can see that this application will be very popular soon.
