can any printer become wireless?

can any printer become wireless?
i want to get a wireless printer. can all printers become wireless? ive got my eye on a certain scanner/copyier/printer what doesnt need to connect to a pc to work. is this wireless?

Best answer:

You could buy a cheapy old computer and hook it up to that printer to make it a print server, then setup a home network thats what i did with my old computer, or you can just flip the extra 100 and buy the wireless one. much better idea if you dont know too much about networking.

All printers can be wireless when you add a wireless print server. However there are limitations. Not all print servers will work with all printers. You will have to check with the manufacturer for compatibility info.

I have yet to see an actual wireless printer, but I have been out of touch with the printers lately. The most popular ones comes with a network card that you can connect to a router. If you have a wireless router, you can turn the printer into a wireless printer.

Actually, I just remembered that my current HP printer does have wireless capabilities. Hehe. I am currently using the HP Photosmart 2710

You would need to check the specs of the printer. Look for either a network card or wireless card.

You could certainly purchase a wireless print server, thus turning *any* printer into a networked one. Although you could print, the scanning/fax/copier software will not work wirelessly! This is true for printers with built-in wireless, too. Almost all consumer “all-in-ones” will have to have a direct connection, i.e., USB or parallel cable, to realize the full capabitity of the machine.
