  Two things you need to know are what Language you’re programming in and which barcode standard you want to use. There is more than one kind of barcode. Here is a partial list of barcode symbologies:

  Code39,
  Code39Ext (Full ASCII mode),
  Code128,
  Upc/Ean 128,
  Ean13,
  Ean8,
  Interleaved 2 of 5 (also known as ITF-14),
  Standard 2 of 5 (also known as Industrial 2 of 5),
  UPC-A,
  UPC-E,
  Code93,
  Code93Ext (Full ASCII mode),
  Code11 (also known as USD-8),
  Codabar (also known as Ames Code/USD-4/NW-7/2 of 7 Code),
  Posnet,
  MSI

  I’d do a search for your language and a dll, like VB.Net barcode.dll code 128
  That should find you what you need.
