    im lookin for the exact same thing i live in corona which is still somewhat close to you. from what i hear the uniden bearcat scanner seems like the one its runs 90$ at walmart and 130$ at radio shack. i wanna get one and try it out so i can know if anythings going on in my area or when i go offroading i can hear for local accidents.

    i have a vertex standard.. but i would suggest a motorolla.. check out ebay.. sometimes they have good deals on them… some will even program it for you … (you have to know what the frequencys are)
