Can I make a bootable jump/flash drive?
Can I make a bootable jump/flash drive?
I do NOT want to use the pen drive linux, ubuntu, ect… I want to boot windows from a jump drive. I have a San Disk Cruzer 8gb, and I have completely removed the U3 application, reformatted it, and partitioned it, fat32. I have a windows CD, and I can load it. It gives me the quick bars at the bottom, the white barcode looking ones, and then gives me the Windows loading screen with the green bars. Right after that I get the most hated Windows bluescreen. If you need any extra information please feel free to post or send an email. Thanks in advance.
Ok. I’m getting mixed results, so let me be a little more precise. I want to install Windows onto a jumpdrive like you would install it on your every day hard drive. I want to make it exactly the same as a hard drive with windows on it, with the only difference being is the size of the device, and the format (I don’t think you can format jump/flash drives in NTFS) Hope this cleares any questions up.

Well officially windows doesn’t support installing xp from a flash drive but you might be able to with vista or windows 7. I haven’t tried but I am sure you can but be aware that if you plan to boot it on another computer (other than the one installed on) you will most likely get the blue screen again cause of different hardware architecture.

Booting from flash drive is still a new territory.
Some people were successful booting from flash drive while others following identical procedure were not. And it happens even with same model flash drives.
So there is no solid way that works all the time.
Also some people who were successful said that it is very slow booting from flash drive.
