Can I return a purchased video game and return it to a retail store?

Can I return a purchased video game and return it to a retail store?

Reason I ask is that I bought a pre-ordered game online and it’ll take a couple of days for me to receive it after it gets released. So I was thinking about buying the same game at Best Buy or Target on the game’s release date and when I receive my game I bought online, I can return it to the store with the receipt.

Reason is that i’m getting a better deal on the game online (obviously), but I don’t really want to wait that long for me to play the game. So do these the return department actually scan the box’s barcode if it’s theres or not or is it just a universal serial code for the item. I’m ignorant like that so if anyone can answer my question it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
Thanks for the replies. Here’s a quick rundown

Buy game at retail store = Keeping this
Game bought online arrives (brand new) – Return to store with receipt

Benefits – Getting better price, playing it earlier

No scam, no illegal stuff… just a lot of greed =)

    no,
if the game’s opened you can’t return it.
but if you go to game stop or something you can, but you won’t get all your money back.
    i suggest you wait.

If you brought it back unopened most wouldn’t really pay attention. I mean they can sell it again, if it is in the shrink wrap and all then they can sell it new still.

Some stores, like GameStop, or Target, ocassionally have special barcodes on select items. If you bought the game from a specialty store, like gamestop or ebgames, sometimes they’ll have their own barcode on it…it’s a matter of removing the sticker and hoping you get away with it.

You COULD always rent the game…alot cheaper, and no fuss, when it comes out.
