Can standard cell phone cameras accurately scan UPC codes on products and receipts from 1 to 2 feet away?
This is a scanning question.

Typical UPC scanning involves lasers for 2 way feedback. But most cell phones don’t capture images with lasers. And typically with a standard opitical scanner, the bar code must me close / pressed up to the glass in order for the UPC code to be accurately recognized.

But is there a technology now where a cell phone or smart phone can be used as a scanner and not TOUCH the UPC code, but be passed within 1 to 2 feet and the UPC code is recognized?

Best answer:

I think there is an iPhone app for that. Really. So the answer must be yes.
