do barcodes trigger alarms in stores ?
barcodes are only used to check prices right?
or can they trigger alarms ?

I ask because I walked out of a store with a barcode sticker on me and the alarm didn’t go off.

Best answer:

Just to check prices.

Nop barcodes do not – they are scanable inventory codes. The alarms are set off by small magnetic strips on the outside or inside of the package

No, it is activaters place inside merchandise. Some are thick plastic (like on garments) others can be small and thinner than a dime.

I do store systems for a living. It depends on a lot of factors. The main factors are going to be if the system was programmed to respond to the barcode you had on.

Usually only certain items are set up for the door alarms. Or it could have been a malfunction in the Door alarm on just that day.

One thing you can count on is that these systems are getting more and more sensitive and accurate by the day.

Soon, EAN256 barcodes and RF ID’s will the norm and all products will have them. The old “mark of the beast” Bible nightmare story will eventually (sooner than later) come true. Please look for it at a store near you soon.

nope – not unless they have a security tag imbedded in them.

Some barcodes are now outfitted with RRIF’s and they can trigger alarms.

You just got a safe one.
