Do the barcode scanners at grocery stores work as an id scanner?

Do the barcode scanners at grocery stores work as an id scanner?

Im in an argument with a guy who says the scanners used to scan the barcode on items at stores can scan your id and tell them your info. Im pretty sure this is b.s. but can someone please explain how they can or can not. Im pretty sure you have to get a seperate id scanner for that.

No, unless there’s a Bar Code for you then it won’t work.

Barcodes work by UPC, which is Universal Product Code. All it does is track how much of a product is sold, and the type of product has the same code. Example: All Fruity Pebble’s Cereal have the SAME Bar code on EVERY BOX, where Corn Flakes have their Own Unique Barcode which is the same on Their Boxes.
