do they scan your bar code on a passport in a computer lets say to buy or pick up your ticket ? When you swipe
If you can or can you not ? Swipe your passport in one of the computers at the airport and if so can anyone else see the screen on your personal infomation? Thank you ..I have seen people use a licence and swipe it through so I guess I’m asking if you did it with a passport and if it can be done..Thank you

Best answer:

I can’t give a definite answer for all check-in kiosks and passports. But I know at Continental’s Newark airport, if you swipe your US passport at the kiosk for a European flight (US citizens not requiring visa), then you get your boarding pass. And no, it does not show all your info. It just verifies your identity and entry requirement for destination.

Travel agency do not swipe you passport in their computer when you buy or pickup you ticket. But the airline counter at the airport will swipe your passport when you pickup or check in for your ticket. The new Driver licence might contain the bar code as your passport but you have to pay extra for it.

Save yourself effort and buy/print your tickets online.

When you scan the barcode of your passport at the airport computers it just verify that you are the passenger and prints out your boarding pass. No other information other than your name is on the screen.
