Do you have to remove the barcode before you steal something? like makeup, a shirt, etc? I see people stealing
and this one girl just picked up this thing of mascara and slipped it in her sleeve. without taking off the barcode. then she left & the alarm didn’t go off.
and at other stores I have seen people steak things with the barcode still on and the alarm DID go off.
so what makes the alarm sound?
is it a matter of removing the barcode or not?
I’m not planning to steal for gosh’s sake, I’m just wondering how in the heck people steal things so easily!
yeah I am mainly wondering WHAT makes the alarm go off.
thanks

Anything under $5 doesn’t have an alarm chip in it. Interesting little fact……

Barcodes have nothing to do with the alarms going off, certain products contain magnetic strips somewhere inside the packaging, usually forcing you to open the container to get to it.
IE, inside a jewel case on a CD

The bar-code is for inventory and pricing purpose. What makes the alarm go off is an electronic chip that is not deactivated by a cashier.

sometimes things like shirts and bags have those little ink filled security tags on them that have to be removed by a special device. sometimes the barcodes have to be scanned too. thats what happens at libraries when you dont check out a book. basically there is a sensor in the security “poles” that i guess can read the barcode if it hasnt been scanned. advice if you wanna steel something: only try to get it if it has a barcode sticker that can be removed. you cant be too careful.

Well, when I used to work at a book store and a library I know that the bar codes had nothing to do with the alarm. It was a tiny little strip that was placed in between the pages of the book. I dont know how they do it on other products though. Still you can not see it and it would be hard to get them out. But still sometimes they just go by cams to check out the theifs. I wondered that too because I had some bad friends and they used to steal from wal-mart a lot and never got caught and I have another one that stole once and did get caught. She said she did it cause she was bored. Well anyways, they weren’t good friends and they were not my type to hang out with so of course we are no longer in touch but I always did wonder how some did it got away with it and others didn’t.

Lady first you should remember that removing the bar-code is illegal

the principle that the bar-code usually is part of Electra magnetic circuit so the alarm is ring when there a cutoff in some moment of this circuit and usually it is happened if you pass the gate without demagnetizing any item with bar-code

remember don’t do it or try to do it as it is illegal
