Does a barcode on top of another barcode make the bottom one unreadable?
lets say someone put a barcode of cheap product on top of another barcode , and scanned the barcode of the cheap product and walked out the shop ,would the bottom barcode be detected by the door scanners ? , i mean i’ve seen products that have BarCodes placed on type of others where a product has been reduced or something,

BEFORE YOU THINK I WANT TO SHOPLIFT , I HAVE A JOB AND IF I EVER RESORTED TO CRIME TRUST ME IT WOULDN’T BE SHOPLIFTING.

Best answer:

Security check point systems at retail stores do not scan for barcodes. They scan for mini radio frequency or magnetic tags that are attached to items in the store. The tags are deactivated by a device at the checkout counters.

Barcodes are just stickers, they are read by a scanner that is essentially a camera, they can only be scanned when they are in plain sight. It is worth noting that sometimes the radio frequency tags are actually embedded within the barcode sticker (in this case the barcode looks a bit unusual with metallic wiring and a tiny microchip on the backside of the sticker, the sticker will also be thicker than normal).

So to answer your question: Yes, the bottom one is unreadable when you place a barcode on top of it, however the item will still set the store alarm off assuming the RF or magnetic tag is still intact.
