does scratching the barcode with a marker make a product?
unable to read by the checkout scanners?
It’s a debate going on between 2 of my friends.
I’m just curious what the Y! community thinks.

In most cases, yes. Some checkout scanners are better quality and might be able to pick it up. Plus if it doesnt scan, the cashier can just type in the UPC code though.
