Has the world got a free ride on the Inventions of America?
Has the world got a free ride on the Inventions of America?
What is holding America back from being the great innovator it once was
My beautiful country, the country that I love dearly is on a decline.
This is totally unacceptable. Our forefathers invented almost everything that is relevant in the world today.
To name a few..Harnessing of electricity into light,Train, Automobile, flying, Phone, Nuclear weapon, Computers, Lasers, GPS, Defibrillators, Supersonic aircraft, Crash test dummy lol, Internet, Airbag, Polio vaccine, Barcode, Marker pen, automatic sliding doors, Radar gun, TV,DVD, VHS, EMAIL, Cell phone, Camera, Traffic lights, Air conditioning, windshield wipers, Road marks, supermarket, Light Switch.bulldozer, Garage door opener , sunglasses, electric guitar, water sprinkler, shopping kart, microwave, refrigerator, ice cream, Amphibious vehicle, cereal, motorcycle, cash register, machine gun, gas pump,
WOW. Not to be harsh on the rest of the world, but Im DAM PROUD to be American. Am I wrong for saying if it was not for America the world would be living like a 3rd world country right now?
1. The world got a free ride on all our technology and ideas.
2. We still send money to many, many, many of these countries. So they get their free ride x2. On our ancestors inventions and our tax dollars now?
Do you agree or not?

Hey I believe you about the gas car I didn’t say America invented everything.
And to the other guy, no i did not believe I invented all that. But I still have the right to be proud of my country.
Are you from a 3rd world country? Is that why your mad?
Neocon you are wrong. I provided a link proving all my claims. You should TRY to do the same.
Why do people from other countries love to hate on the success of America? Instead of crying about it, try to out do us. Don’t be a sore loser

You know….if we are going to talk about inventions, let me just mention 1. The compass. Invented in China.
edit:
You have every right to be proud of the U.S.. Americans have done an awful lot of good. But if you are going to base your pride on inventions, it’s a house of cards. In the scheme of things Americans have invented no more or no less than any other cultural group.

Get off your soap box you are boring the people please. Blah blah blah. You are fitting into the worlds assumption of an american sterotype.

Nixon took a ton of expired patents to China when China opened up, and that was the beginning of the end.

Socialism will be the end of inventiveness. Turns us all into bricks. All the same so they can be stacked evenly.
6. Obama the retarded clown | February 15th, 2011 at 11:19 am
What’s holding us back?
Democrats are filling our country with immigrants who are only capable of inventing a new taco.
7. Dylan | February 15th, 2011 at 11:56 am
Did you invent any of that?
If you did, then you are free to talk like that about it, if you didn’t then you should shut up, and stop trying to take credit for things you didn’t have part in.
8. Boober | February 15th, 2011 at 12:48 pm
Absolutely. The company I work for keeps talking about being “world class”. Screw “world class”. We should be preaching American Exceptionalism.
9. imfoxygirl | February 15th, 2011 at 1:29 pm
Germany was the first to invent the gasoline car.

No. most of the inventions you listed were not invented in the US. the airplane, motorcycle, automobile, train, VHS, DVD, camera, road marks, Light Switch, etc. Those inventions were first invented in Europe and Asia.

“free ride on all our technology and ideas”
Nobody is getting any of the things you mention for “free”.
Your complaint is invalid.

First of all, there is no free ride, or free lunch. The US has benefited greatly from the inventions that they created. When sold to other countries, we realized profit. And don’t forget, we are not really from here. We are immigrants from Europe that invented the ships and the navigation tools that enabled them to cross the oceans.
Also, many of our great inventions came from expatriots, such as Albert Einstein. We are a great nation and have enriched the world. But nationalism limits our greatness to egotism and we are better than that, because our first loyalty is to mankind, and we should feel honored to have contributed to that.

So unasked for “interventions” (read invasions and coups and money to prop up dictators) is a GOOD thing? I thought were were pro-democracy? If your question is not a Poe, it’s a great example of why the world hates us (and I’m American).
14. Oli Uk | February 15th, 2011 at 3:40 pm
I think you a are claiming more than your share
Computers – not really american – “the difference engine” (uk) alan turing (UK) etc
Just one example, the DVD is based on the CD invented by phillips (not a us company)
Its not that important where things were invented, but if it means that much to you then you need to be able to justify your claims
I don’t hate the success of America , but I do deplore arrogance and unjustified boasting
Maybe time for a “war on error??”

America did NOT invent the airplane, the car, the light bulb etc. Maybe a little research into REAL history would benefit you, instead of what they pass off as history in the US.

No.
The Automobile was invented by Gottlieb Damler in Germany.
Nuclear weapons were first imagined by Leo Szilard of Hungary and the US developed the first ones with a lot of help from refugee scientists from Europe. .
TV was invented by John Logie Baird, a Scot.
While the US certainly has produced its share of inventions and ideas, it by no means has a monopoly on such things.
17. DJ Black | February 15th, 2011 at 4:52 pm
Your countrymen didn’t invent the vast majority of things on those list (TVs, Trains, Internet, cameras and phones for example).
Most of what you listed was, incredibly specific type of an earlier invention of another country (E.G.: mobile phones, but not phones. Radar gun, but not radar. Motorcycles, but not bicycles. Polio vaccines, but not vaccines etc.)
Also, feeling proud and taking credit for things that other people have done is fucking stupid anyway:
‘Instead of crying about it try to outdo us”
Hmmm…. so what have you (or anyone else in this thread) personally contributed?
Oh wait – fuck all.
The fact that you try to get a free ride for your ego shows how insecure you are, you pathetic wanker.
But whatever, if that’s what you value, then you’d be interested to know that per capita, Britain has vastly more Nobel Prize winners than America. Ouch.
AMERICA IS BEST!!!1!!!!11!!
Ever heard of classical civilisations dickface?
Ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Jesus, Buddha, Islam, Confucius, Tao, Rennaissance & Enlightenment? Hmmm? Thought not.
Americans ~ taking credit for what they have not done….

Hopefully we can get back into making things again.

Yes, interesting observation
20. Rogue Process | February 15th, 2011 at 6:03 pm
sure, thanks for the internets.. it is great :-)
you of course got a free ride on all the inventions of the countries and people that came before you (things like, you know, ‘writing’, ‘science’, ‘democracy’, the steam engine, the industrial revolution, etc..).. but that’s how it is.
but yeah, I’d sad too that America seems to have descented into cannibalism (no longer creating things, but just robbing each other), even your movies mostly suck now a days (and Hollywood is being outsourced to Canada, lol).

Once again, an American shows complete and utter lack of knowledge of history.
The Arabs actually invented the scientific method, go back far enough and pretty much everything worthwhile was invented by them.
Then of course Europe and then the US in recent years.
And don’t forget about countries like China which are taking over in that regard.
You can be a proud American, no one is trying to take that away from you dude, just understand that not everything was “made in America”.
