Have you ever given yourself the five fingered discount?
I haven’t, but i have given myself the switch discount. I took a book from Borders that was cheaper, and switched the barcode with the one i wanted that was more expensive, I made sure they had similiar titles. The people didn’t notice and even if they did, I they couldn’t prove it was me.

oh yeah. Just little things though, especially from wal-mart. JUST BECAUSE I HATE THAT STORE. I just think of how much money they make and how they cheat their employees on their wages, that store is messed up.

Good trick with the barcode, still considered as theft though. I have not given myself that discount myself, purely because I would probably get caught. If I thought I could get away with it I would murder some deserving lowlife everyday.

Never. I have, at times, thought about it, but I could never do it. Sure, it would be much easier than using your hard earned money to purchase it yourself, but it’s so wrong.

I work in retail, and I don’t think you could really understand how bad it is what you are doing until you have worked this sort of job. When you steal something, not only are you ripping off the store and raising the prices for everyone else to make up for missing products, you are creating a hassle for employees. I work for Target. When something is stolen, it’s not like we just say oh well, it’s gone, we have to document everything. And switching the bar codes is just as bad. You might think it’s not a big deal, but then our inventories are all messed up, not to mention it is just cheating the system. It is greatly frowned upon when people switch the bar codes. As cashiers, we notice much more often than you think. Scanning items all day, you start to notice what different items cost, so don’t think you are really getting away with it, we know. There are almost always other barcodes directly attached to the product that we use to type in instead of the wrong sticker that people think they can just paste on the product.

I hope that this answer will change the way you feel about shoplifting. I understand just as well as anyone that it would be so much easier to just take things than purchase them, but it’s wrong. I am a 19 year old poor college student, but it doesn’t stop me for paying full price, and I hope you never shoplift again.
