Have you ever had a fundamentalist Christian tell you that UPC symbols (barcodes) are the mark of the beast?

Have you ever had a fundamentalist Christian tell you that UPC symbols (barcodes) are the mark of the beast?
It happened to me today.

Can’t see it, myself.

Best answer:

There are lunatic extremists in every group, but believe me, this accounts for less than one per cent of Christians.

One time this fundamentalist was discussing the false prophet, and said the pope was a candidate. LOL.

YES. Someone in my US History class said that she expects that Obama will require the entire world to have one on their forehead.

People like this make me certain that I was born in the wrong time or on the wrong planet.

It’s been a while, but yeah. Those are the hard core conspiracy theory folks.

I always thought that Pringles potato chips were the work of the Devil.

The idea comes from the 1993 movie ‘Naked’. A clearly deranged character uses it as one of the proofs that 2000 will mark the Second Coming.

In the film, it is a parody of the nutty stuff fundamentalists believe.

Predictably, fundamentalists took it as true.

my mom believes that, that one day we will all have them and that will be the only way we can eat. is to get this mark.

    I can’t see it either.

It’s not as common now, but in the 1970′s and 80′s it was THE BIG THING. But then again, Jesus was supposed to return by 1988, too (40 years after the establishment of modern Israel). Guess he had other things to do.

I dont think so, but i could see it being in the same relam…something that would lead up to it….like smart cards, cashless society, fingerprinting,….the use of chipping humans with personal ids. that i believe could be. theyre inserted into your hand and they have a number on it.
i believe they are also in pacemakers if im not mistaken.

Yes, I have. When I was a kid, my church didn’t have a Sunday school, so my mom made me go to the Presbyterian one. We had a teacher who was always talking about the mark of the beast and all that stuff. I think the UPC codes had just started and she thought those were the mark of the beast. At the time I thought she was nuts. I guess I was a pretty level-headed kid.

Yes, but not in the sense you mean.

They meant codes being tattooed onto people, needing to be scanned in order to buy or sell. But not the UPC symbols on products themselves.

Yes I did when they first came out. It was the same with our social security numbers I was told.
