I have worked with various barcode scanners and haven’t see any options for changing the sound.

changing the hardware chip meant for that sound

From what I know it’s illegal to temper with the barcode scaner software, still even if you might try ;)), you won’t get any result. You’ll need a special self recognition software for this job, self recognition I mean the software automaticly recognizes the brand of the scaner and taps into its settings. That’s what I know.
