How can I fix Windows 7 Explorer.EXE?
I got a new hard drive for Christmas. Same type & version as mine, just more space (switched from 20gb to 40gb). I had Windows 7 on my old hard drive, so I knew it should work just fine with this one. I installed Windows 7 on this hard drive, & have been having problems with explorer.exe crashing. Sometimes, its at random, while other times, it is when I do specific things. Here are 3 different places it crashes on every time I hover over them on the task bar.

I have scanned with my own & online virus scanners, defragged, updated drivers, etc, but nothing seems to work. This didn’t happen on my other hard drive. Does anyone know the cause of this? If so, how can I fix this?
Not INTERNET EXPLORER. I’m talking about explorer.exe, the main process of Windows.
RegCure is a no go.
1. It is NOT FREE. It will scan for free, but won’t fix errors for free.
2. Luckily, I have had RegCure before, so I was able to fix errors. It made my computer slightly faster, but no fix for explorer.exe. Now, it just does it quicker when I hover over something…
Best answer:
Download the new version of explorer from microsoft.com. THat easy!

If you have the windows 7 disk you can do a system repair. Start the machine from the disk. It loads up all the files needed. You will see a “Click R to repair”. That should do it. Now i dont know if win7 is like XP, where if you click R the first time you get a DOS window and that’s where you fix your broken hdd. If that happens, then start again and go past the first time your see “Click R to repair”. After it shows you your partition like C:window you will see “Click R to repair” a 2nd time. That is when you click R and the disk replaces all the critical files to run windows.
Hope this helps. I have not had a single issue with windows 7 thus far.
Good luck
