How can I implement data onto Microsoft Word using a barcode scanner?

How can I implement data onto Microsoft Word using a barcode scanner?
At my work we print out a microsoft word document for each unit we work on.
There are 2 serial number barcodes on the unit themselves that we have to type in manually into the microsoft word document.
Does microsoft word already have the ability to retrieve the serial numbers once we buy a barcode scanner? Or do we also have to buy software.
Which software and barcode scanner do you recommend?

Yes, most wands come with font packages or you can download them.

This one works great in MSWord and I use it in Quick Books to input item numbers it is so easy “A cave man can use it”
