How can I look up my library card barcode number online?
I can’t find my card right now, but I want to check whether I’ve got any books still due to be returned and want to do that from the comfort of my home computer, since the library is MILES from here. Web services or ideas that could help, anyone?

Find your library’s or library system’s website. (Depending on where you live and how unique its name is, this can be easy or surprisingly difficult.) With luck, it’ll have some clumsy (often CARL, long the cheapest library software) system which allows you to check your card account’s activity using the card’s number and your last name.
It should be able to tell you what items you have checked out, which are overdue and how long, and how much fine you owe, if any.

It’s doubtful. Better luck to call the library and find out if they can tell you over the phone what is almost due, and ask if they can renew them for you over the phone with just your name.
Sometimes a warm body still works better than a computer.

I know in my library system (PINES in Georgia) you cannot look up your card number, unless you go to the library to replace a lost/missing card. You may wish to try calling your local library on the phone and asking about their policy for this situation.

You’re going to have to call your library to get your barcode. Then you can go to the library’s website and it should have an option to log into your account. But if you call to get your barcode you might as well ask about your books instead of wasting the time to get online. Also, if your library has a strict privacy policy they may not give the barcode to you over the phone. My suggestion would be to just call them and ask them to check your account for overdue books.
