How do I make the background of desktop icon text transparent?

Open System Properties in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab,
and click Settings in the Performance section.
Turn on the Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop option, and click Ok.
DID NOT WORK!!!!
I have been at this for about a year on my laptop.
Someone plezzzzz help me with this!

    I would think you need to work on the image file that the icon is drawing from. Using a photo manipulation program (powerful one that will open an icon file like Photoshop or Gimp). I did it with my icon for the tabs symbols you see in browsers. You need to use an automated background remover or do it by hand and save it as a transparent png or gif. You can see this on my website:

    the man in front of the slide show is a transparent png. his background changes to whatever the gif slide show behind him is. The icon on the tab on my site is a transparent cartoon png. that you can see real big on my blog.

    To make the transparent png you can view video on youtube. Just search transparent png. I did mine with Photoshop and extensions in seconds. That comes with a big price though.

    Gimp has ways as well and is free. Gimp is almost as good as Photoshop and should have some video tutorials on transparent PNG creation

    Youtube will show you all with some smart search terms.
