How do stores’ door scanners work?
I’m not advocating stealing or anything, but I’ve always wondered how those door scanners can work.

Do they actually scan every single item that’s in your bags in the fraction of a second it takes you to pass them? There’s no way! How can they “look” inside your bags? Not only that but how can they be able to find the bar codes of so many items all in .5 seconds or less. It seems to me they’re there more to scare people than actually do anything to detect stolen items. One day I was doing the self checkout and I was almost tempted to just not scan an item and see if it’ll buzz but my moral compass didn’t let me do it haha :P

Anyone know more about how they work?

Best answer:

The next time you buy something, say a DVD.open it when you get home and look for a raised bar about an inch long and a quarter inch wide.
That is the security device that sets off the alarms at the store doors as you exit.
Most food items do not have these RFID tags in them.
Most checkout stands have 2 scanners,1 reads the bar code for the item and the other is to deactivate the security device.

You can also trip the door alarms if you have a magnet in your pocket.
