    You have to first apply to Bowker for ISBN bowker.com/ and they will assign you your publishers ISBN numbers — and those numbers will be used for each of your publications

    This will be a partial answer. It depends on what it is. Each type of book has of course a different barcode, depending on the ISBN and also if it is a new book or used. Each category of books start with the same number. Also, for each book or item, the bookstore system has a SKU number. They can create barcode labels for each SKU.

    Product code is assigned based on the nature of products. In this case, for ex you can have a product code like AB01020304

    where;
    AB = Your bookstore name
    01 = Branch number
    02 = Book category ex- novels or cookery
    03 = Sub category ex – a specific type of novel, a specific cookery
    04 = Book number
