How do you remove labels with permanent adhesive?

How do you remove labels with permanent adhesive?

I have a lot of books (soft cover) that have small permanent adhesive labels on them.
Is there any way to remove the labels without marring the book cover?
Thanks,
David

Wipe over them with a damp cloth first and scrape off what you can. Then put some nail polish remover on a cotton ball and wipe it off.

Carefully and patiently use a razor blade. Goo Gone or peanut butter or any other oily remover will leave an oil stain on the cover.
