How does a barcode scanner work?
Best answer:
The scanner emits a laser that scans back and forth very rapidly. That’s the red line that you see. It measures how much of that laser is reflected at each point along it’s path. It is then able to determine the pattern of light and dark (dark reflects less than light). The scanner then decodes the pattern into letters and numbers.

when u scan an item it reads the numbers on the barcode and it reconizes those numbers and shows you a price of that item and what item it is.
