How does Thermal Ribbon Work?

How does Thermal Ribbon Work?

I am a CVS photolab tech…we have instant Kodak photo maker’s where the customer just prints their own pictures, and the only printing componemts are a roll of photo paper, and thermal ribbon. I am just curious…how does the thermal ribbon work? I know the paper goes in and out of the printer a few times as different colors are applied, but I have no idea how the entire thing actually works.

Thanks!

Well “thermal” suggests that the printer puts down a layer and uses heat to adhear it to the paper. So if the paper come out warm. That is the thermal proccess.

Applies one layer heats it, and it repeats till done
