How many Joules do I need?
How many Joules do I need?
Computer, printer, fax, scanner, wireless and telephone on the same circuit…..how many Joules do I need in a surge protector?
A typical lightning strike is 10,000 amps…..how many Joules to protect against this strength surge.
I see why electrical engineers make so much money. Not many answers.
Best answer:
the joule rating is the amount of surge the protector will absorb from a lightning strike, transformer failure or such.
it’s not a rating of how many devices you plug in, the surge will likely come from line power.
some laser printers and copiers generate a surge on startup and should not be connected to a surge protector meant for computers. connect those to a power strip.
