How the application of barcode in the bussiness?
Best answer:
Most barcode scanners work as keyboard devices. They actually plug into the keyboard port, with the keyboard plugged into them. When they scan a barcode, they typically end the scan as if the [Enter] key had been pressed, so your software will know that the scan is complete. A few interface with a serial port and require special drivers to use, but very few. I have not seen any USB scanners yet, but I’m sure there are some out there. I would imagine they are simply HID (Human Interface Device) components, and operate similar to the keyboard devices I used years ago.
As far as the printed barcodes go, there are numerous different formats (EAN, 3 of 9, 2 of 5, UPC, etc.). Most scanners support several different formats so compatibility is usually not a problem.
Regarding printing barcodes, several different font developers sell TrueType barcode fonts and many printer manufacturers provide either dedicated barcode printers, or printer add-ins to print barcode fonts.
Scanners themselves come in a variety of formats including wands, CCD, laser, wireless, etc. Each has different advantages (cost, read range, barcode formats, etc). and disadvantages.
