How to answer questions in OCR History exam to get the top marks?
I wanted to know how to structure the questions that are 4 marks, 6 marks, 10 marks etc in the GCSE OCR History exam?
Thanks
surely explaining what you know and the facts are the same thing? Do you mean explain the source and then add your own knowledge?
Thanks

You could start by listening to the podcasts at http://www.mrallsophistory.com. He’s taught OCR Modern World History for years and knows all the tricks to get the best marks on the exam. There are podcasts that cover exam skills, as well as podcasts that cover key topics while also suggesting approaches to possible exam questions.

4 mark answers – There is no actual structure to it, you just need to give 4 valid points.
6 mark questions – The structure is –
One Reason was…
This was because…
This meant that…
E.G – Explain why Clemenceau wanted the Treaty of Versailles to Punish Germany severely?
The answer would be – One reason was Clemenceau wanted reparations for the damage. This was because Germany had destroyed a lot of French land during the war and many people had died. This meant that he could take revenge of Germany by using the treaty to make them pay reparations.
If you write 3 weak points or 2 strong points then you get full marks.
10 mark answers- I can’t really help you with this because i’m looking for the answer to this myself! I think that you have to give all the other explanations to the question and write a conclusion.
E.G – ‘The most important reason why germany hated the treaty of versailles was the loss of territory’ How far do you agree?
You would talk about –
Germany’s Loss of Territory
War Guilt Clause
Loss of jobs etc.
Conclusion – Which is the most important and why.
Hope this helped!!!

Basically for ten mark questions you have to make 3 points (similar to 6 marks question structure) with an introduction (though the introduction will get you no marks but it may help you start your answer) the conclusion will answer the question but without summing up what you have all ready said also there is an 8 mark question which is similar to 6 marks but requires 3 well explained answers.
