How to create a barcode system for a small business?

My family business that specializes in retail furniture products wants to utilize a barcode system to keep track of our items. Does anyone have experience with this process and what I need to do? Specific websites for products and suggestions would really help! Thanks.

    Is this just for inventory tracking or will it be integrated into your Point of Sale, Accounting and Inventory systems tying all pieces together?

    I’ve used barcode systems from Symbol and Motorola. The PDA scanners are nice, but expensive.

    Think about how you envision the entire system working and go from there. Which accounting software do you use? I have used Quickbooks Pro and I know they offer a POS & barcode solution, but I’ve never used it that part.

    If your family business is large, you should totally hire a consultant.

    there are probably plenty of existing systems out there – no need to invent anything – google it
