If you have a wedge type scanner it is connected bewteen the PC and your keyboard. (The scanner is wedged in between the keyboard and PC.)
Scanning a barcode with a wedge will act like you typed the data in with the keyboard. The wedge will read the barcode and send keyboard codes to your PC. As far as the PC is concerned it thinks you typed in the data. This mean that any scanned data will go into what ever program and location that has focus.
