How to set up a Barcode Database System?

How to set up a Barcode Database System?
Im soon to set up a business in which users log into an online website account, and trade in their old unwanted items for cash, so its mainly online based.
So, want I want to do is, have a database in which each user is stored and assigned a barcode for each trade they want to make. This is then printed off, and added to their parcel for when they want to send it off. Then, when we recieve their parcel, we scan the barcode, in which is identified in our database and then that shows us who the parcel belongs to – showing who the customer is.

Anybody and ideas. If you have a full solution to a working system and you would like to share, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Best answer:

Barcodes are graphic representations of alpha-numeric data. You store the data in the database. If you need the barcode on an item, create the barcode using a barcode font (there are many different barcodes, and many fonts for each one). There are programs and tutorials all over the web but there’s nothing you can download and drop in – you’re going to have to learn a few things, then write some code (or hire a programmer who’s familiar with creating printable barcoded shipping labels online).
