I just got a cashiers check in the mail?

It was mmailed from fl. and is for nearly ,000 and it came only with a blank piece of paper so you couldn’t see the check, well from the outside.

Now the stamps do not appear to be well stamped, however the US postal service bar code is on the letter it’s self.

It is from bank of america and I called them and they were most unhelpful?

Is this for real or a scam? I could really use the money after all that I have been throw? How can I verfiy this check? and don’t say call bank of americia I did and they were useless.

It’s counterfit. Hundreds of these things going around. What happens when you cash it and it’s bogus? Take it to the police.

There are many cashier’s check scams going around. Many are tied to a lottery theme or inheritence. Easiest thing to do would be to go to bank of america and see if there are funds avalible to cash the check they can tell you if it is able to be cashed or if it isnt. If it is fraud they might want to investigate the matter further. You have to ask yourself however; who sent it and why (did i sign up for an australian lottery??? When was i in canada last?)ect. If you deposit it in your account however; due to the high dollar amount and the lack of bank of americas verifying checks then it will most likely be place on a buisness day hold of 7-11 days and if it comes back fake or fraud/counterfiet you will receive returned deposit fee so best thing to do is go to a bank of america location and see what the deal with it is. whether or not they can cash it since it is drawn off of there bank.

The next step in this scam is to notify you that it was sent by mistake. That notice will come from some organization that sounds reputable. They will explain the error and offer you a reward for your service by asking you to deposit the check in your account and then send them a check for $8,000, keeping the balance for yourself. After you do that, your bank will discover that the cashiers check is a forgery. By then, however, your check will be cashed by the crooks and you will owe both banks. Don’t do anything with this check unless you take it straight to Bank of America and endorse it “without recourse.” This means your endorsement is not a guarantee. If you do anything else, you will at least be responsible for the bad check fees.

My guess is the same as the previous post. Pretty good chance its bad. In fact, I know someone who did cash one like this and shortly thereafter was visited by police. Though he was later cleared, it was still a nightmare. My best suggestion is try to verify routing numbers at least. Even though it says BofA it may not have accurate numbers. Try this link from the Fed’s. fededirectory.frb.org/search_ACH.cfm

A cashiers cheque is like cash, it’s prepaid cheque. They are also like cash in design, colors and have the official seal of the Bank, the numbers clearly in red a serial number etc.

What you have to do is take it to the Bank of America or your own bank and ask them about it in person. All cashiers cheques have to be verified by an employee of the issuing bank, so they always have to be cashed in person. They aren’t allowed to verify over the phone, which is probably what they told you but they didn’t tell you why.

If it’s real, then the Bank has to give you $9,000.00. But people try to counterfeit them because they are as good as cash.

Therefore the Bank won’t confirm over the phone and whatever you do don’t cash it in an ABM. Just take it to the teller and tell them what you said here, you’re don’t know who sent it so you have doubts, could you verify it for me please.

If it’s real you get $9000.00. If it’s fake then the Bank knows it has a counterfeiter on it’s hands. However my guess is that it could very well be real, but cash it at with a teller at the Bank of America or your own Bank. Legally you have to verify your ID before they are allowed to give you the money. If you cash it at your Bank, they will put a hold on the funds until it is verified.

Whatever you do, you don’t want to walk out of the Bank of America with $9000.00 of cash. Have the funds transfered to your own bank account.

You won’t be able to verify it over the internet either, the above two sites are good for electronic payment’s only, since you have physical cheque, it always has to be in person.

Odds are it’s a fake, but only the bank can tell for sure. Go to your nearest Bank of America location and have a teller check it out for you. If it’s the real deal- good for you. :) If it’s not- they’ll let you know.

If a $9,000.00 transaction is deposited and withdrawn from your account, the US Treasury is automatically notified of this transaction. Deposit the check but withdraw it in 2 separate transactions.
