Most barcode scanners will read standard 1D barcodes such as those on shipping labels, your best bet is to find out what the type of barcodes are that you need to read and match a scanner to it. (Most barcode scanners have a pdf specification sheet that will list all the barcode types that they can read.)

Also worth considering whether you need the scanner to be cordless or not, how you want it to connect to your computer (USB, Keyboard Wedge, Serial etc.) and if it has to work with any bespoke software?
