If I want a manufacturer to make a change on their label – where do I begin?

If I want a manufacturer to make a change on their label – where do I begin?

It is an over the counter earmite medication for kittens- the active ingredient can cause liver, kidney and stomach damage and death. There are no such warnings on the labels of the container or the package. And no precautionary step such as use cones with the product.

Write a brief note to the Better Business Bureau http://welcome.bbb.org/ with the same info you share here and supported, if possible, by legitimate medical studies. If you’re not an expert (vet), explain how you learned of this product’s deficiency. Did a vet tell you, for example? Explain that if you had used the product without taking the precautions omitted from these instructions, you might very well be meeting the manufacturer in court as a representative plaintiff in a class action lawsuit. Copy the US Food and Drug Admin http://www.fda.gov/ and the manufacturer. This should get everyone’s attention.

Try to make contact with the manufacturer’s CEO of the company if you possibly can. Then if no action see if the company is a subsidiary of another company and go to his boss.
Veterinary Medical Association is another place to go. And then I think it would be the FDA’s turn to hear from you. I believe they both would have concerns about this.

I know there is a magazine out that people who are crazy about cats like to read but I forget the name of it.
I think a letter to the editor of that one might help too.

    Good Luck.
