I received a letter from my school……..
but the envelope didn’t have a barcode on it.
It didn’t have anything like this: technoriversoft.com/images/PostnetBarcode.jpg
That’s not a problem, is it?

No they’re not required to have barcodes.

No the barcodes are required in order to recieve the cheaper mass mailing option.
I assume your letter from school was not something sent out to all students. Therefore, they didn’t have to put the barcode on it, because they couldn’t have received the cheaper bulk rate anyways.

I think you’re being paranoid about this. Everything should be fine.

Your school doesn’t have to have a barcode on it. We get letters from our son’s college without bar codes. It just depends on how they mail it.
If they are asking you to send something back in an envelope they sent and it doesn’t have a barcode, stick a stamp on it.

The barcode is simply addressing info for automatic sorting and/or bulk postage.

All mail handled by the USPS will have a barcode on it. Since the anthrax incident the Post Office pays particular attention to tracking mail. The sprayed on barcode will be at the bottom of the letter. Perhaps the school mail was delivered by someone other than the post office?

Usually they are placed at the post office. But since a letter without a bar code got to you, it means that it wasn’t a big deal. However if you forget to put the zip code on it can delay your letter considerably
