I’m looking for a hh radio scanner to listen to local police and emergency crews that use a trunking system.?
I have a scanner at home and listen to it all the time. I spend a good 9 hours a day in another county and can’t listen to the local agencies because they use an 800 MHz trunking system. (Motorola Type II Smartnet). I have an 800 MHz hh but it’s not a trunk tracker. I’m looking to buy a used one on ebay. Looking for suggestions as far as the models. Again I’m only interested in a handheld. Thanks.

If the area you are in uses digital, then look for one of these models:
Uniden BCD396T
BCD396XT

If there are no digital comms you want to monitor, then look for
Uniden BC246T
BC346XT

(The “XT” models are the most recent, but the other models are decent, too, and more likely to be found used on E*Bay.)
