In Japan, can people create their own barcode for mobile phones?
Yeah, I was just wondering about those little barcode things they have in japan…can people create one of those eg. to send some personal information to a friend via email and have the barcode in the email or something? Can they do that?
Best answer:
The bar codes are called “QR codes”.
The codes can contain an e-mail address, URL, phone number, or just plain text. They are commonly used on advertising, business cards, and promotions.
Most current Japanese mobile phones can read these codes with their camera. Just point the camera at the QR bar code and off you go.

It doesn’t matter if the image is on paper or a PC screen – just as long as you can point your phone at it.
You can make your own codes free online and save the code as a JPG or PNG image file.
