Is it illegal to write down bar codes off items in the store, to use in a contest?
Contests that have you enter the bar code number from a product to win, is there any law against just looking at products in the store for the numbers without buying the item first?

If so, what is the penalty?

If not, would it be against store policy or would they most likely not notice (in your opinion)?

I’m in Canada if that matters.
