Is it possible to create a POS system for my small business using my exsiting PCs?
I currently operate a small business that uses 2 PCs with a reservations system and ticket printing. I also have one cash register. Is it possible to create a POS-like system using my current reservations systems and computers? Are there cash drawers that could be connected to my PCs like any other Hardware?
I’m not very familiar with how any of this might work – I’m really just exploring – any insight would be great. Thanks

You could create anything you want on a pc, if you have the database and programming skills. Your are much better off buying an out of the box solution that comes with the software and hardware you need.
I am sure if you search the net, you can find everything you need, and pretty cheap too. For instance, here is an USB cash drawer for less than $200 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2254031&CatId=298
and here is software for less than $1000

A “Point of Sale” system traditionally tracks inventory, accumulates sales and compares system on-hands to reorder points and generates replenishment orders for you.
I’m not sure why you would need such a system to sell tickets and reservations since those are soft goods that you don’t track and reorder; you purchase them as your customer buys them from you.
You must be a travel agency? Real POS software is very expensive and requires pretty large database storage if you stock inventory. The system you currently have seems to be the most economical for the business you describe.
